Executive Biography


Dr. Christian Penaloza holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from San Diego State University, a Masters in Engineering Science and Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience Robotics from Osaka University. Currently, he is a researcher at the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute (ATR) and specially appointed faculty member at the Intelligent Robotics – Ishiguro Laboratory, Osaka University in Japan.

Dr. Penaloza has authored publications in international peer-review conferences in the area of robotics. His research topics include: learning from demonstration using human-robot interaction, learning framework for cloud robotics, visual learning using web data, and skill transfer using traditional methods such as tele-operation with graphic interfaces and non-traditional methods such as Brain Machine Interface systems. In May 2014, Dr. Penaloza’s research project on ‘Automating an Intelligent Brain Machine Interface System” was featured by the renowned Engineering & Technology (E & T magazine) from United Kingdom, as well as News portals in more than 20 countries (5 languages), and specialized medical technology magazines.

Dr. Penaloza has received numerous academic awards that include: Monbukagakusho Award from the Japanese Government (2012), Most Valuable Player (MVP) award by the 3rd Global Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization (G-TEC) program at Osaka University (2013) and Excellence Award for Overseas Research by the Manufacturing and Technology Association in Japan (2014).
